#TranchesDeCovid : énormément de souvenirs ce matin dans mes publications d'il y a 3 ans.
Le #déconfinement commençait à poindre. Il était question de #contacttracing et 1 partie des soignants étaient vent debout contre cette nouvelle demande.

Heyy! #marineresearchers!!!!
Interesting discussion:
- Publishing in high impact factor journals?
or
- Publishing in journals maximizing the citations?
see tread below
#Impactfactor #metrics #scientometrics #science #citations
I have made a small research:
- Selected several journals with impact factors between 1.6 and 49.5
- Looking in Scopus for papers published in 2020
- Looking at the papers which didn't receive citations until now

and the results are....👇👇👇👇👇
You can see the results here:
- Papers published in Science didn't receive citations in 46.6% of cases
- In Nature this is 27.5%
You can be very happy publishing there, but maybe you will never receive a citation!!!!!

Found this write up of my 2012 election analysis and data use by the numerati...and how journalists have used data to map and visualize communities...2012. #mediadeserts #citations elon.edu/u/news/2013/04…
For those of you who may not know...@elonuniversity is in North Carolina (hi @thebusinessofnews), where I was doing mapping work in 2012 of media deserts, tracking online hate rhetoric and the political use of social technologies/data for targeted messaging and journalism work. Image
If you go to wikipedia and look up "news deserts", the history begins in 2016 @businessofnews ? And you were....at @DukeU at the time? How coincidental that my methodology, definitions and work would be duplicated just 40 miles away? Curious. #citationsmatter

Today is the Day of Remembrance, commemorating the day when FDR signed Exec. Order 9066, authorizing the mass incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans.

@InternetArchive & @DenshoProject present the Digital Library of Japanese American Incarceration:
archive.org/details/digita…
With a grant from the @NatlParkService, we have purchased & digitized 600+ books about the wartime incarceration of Japanese Americans, making these often out-of-print books available to researchers, students, @Wikipedia editors & the public.
3/ Ranging from children's books, photo anthologies to scholarly works, the Digital Library of Japanese American Incarceration is among the largest collections of online books about this subject.

I am humbled and privilleged to note that my #Research paper; "Sources of #Unemployment in #Lesotho" is now available and can be accessed via the People's Republic of #China's National #Science and #Technology #Library - #NSTL. I give thanks 😎 Image
So far this year, I have successfully published three #Research articles in #Macroeconomics & #Finance, with another two in press. I am currently hammering away at a handful of working papers which will most certainly find a home in reputable #Journals, come 2021 🙏🏽🙂 Image
Im currently internalising the very insightful reviewer comments on my latest #Research paper titled; "Investigating Determinants of Commercial Bank Spreads in #Lesotho", from the good folks over at the globally reputable #International #Journal of #Finance & #Economics #IJFE 😊 ImageImage

What is a citation?
Are all #citations equal?

Do, for example, self-citations from one's own preprints also count? There are scholars with huge Google Scholar citation count because they self-cite a lot, but when you look them up on Scopus, they practically don't exist.
There are also people who cite only celebrity scholars because they think that's what will make them look smart.

There are people who cite mostly stuff published in recognised journals because they think that's more reliable, "proper science". Plus, some are lazy.
Some cite what others cite without even reading the cited source. If you don't believe me, ask Meyer & Rowan 1977 and Powell & Dimaggio 1983.

Some folks cite tend to hyper-cite their friends and colleagues. Or editors of the journal they publish in.

06/01/2019 - 78 years ago today, the longest-serving #UnitedStates #President, #Franklin D. #Roosevelt (#FDR) addressed the 77th #Congress with his "#Four #Freedoms" speech with the intent to shift #US #foreign #policy from that of #neutrality to #interventionist.
#FDR promoted the idea that the people of the world, in all nations, shared entitlement to four freedoms: that of the freedom of speech and expression, the freedom of worship, the freedom from want and the freedom from fear.
#FDR is arguably one of the most 'successful' #US Presidents. Some would argue that on the basis of his numerous social policies such as 'the New Deal'. Others, however, would argue that his role during the second world war was more prevalent to his success & everlasting legacy.
