A couple months ago I wrote up this thread about a 1964 commentator who feared the Goldwater movement had an authoritarian, illiberal feel to it. Yesterday, a county GOP in AZ responded with this.
So I thought, let’s see who these Republicans retweet. Lots of Chuck Woolery and Cand*ce Ow*ns of course. But also VDARE, an avowedly white nationalist organization and also the Islamophobic British Infowars guy.
They also liked what this Q account with 125k followers had to say. And they love the idea of locking Hillary up.
These very pro-America people also rooted for the US women to lose the World Cup, and think Muslim citizens are most likely terrorists.
In light of who these AZ Republicans tell us they are, just gonna re-up this observation an observer made about the AZ Republican who got the GOP nomination in ‘64.
The radicalization of county-level GOP activists and organizations is an important story which our nationally oriented media is not covering sufficiently. Here’s one exception.
Listen to the downright Lincolnian terms in which these four women of color defend themselves against the President’s racist attack. Then look at the social media of county level GOPs like this one. Then tell me who’s more canonically American.
