The wonderful #PA01 #townhall held by @ashley_ehasz was a great success tonight.

But present outside was #CardboardFitz, a prop from past @FridaysWithFitz events who provided a history of #GOP #MAGAextremist Brian Fitzpatrick's worst votes!

📷 by Steve C.
Thx, Steve!
An oldie but a goodie.

Back in 2017, #PA01 #GOP Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick voted YES on the classic #Trump, Paul Ryan and #McConnell's #GOPTaxScam, which forked benefits over to the ultra rich and corporations.
#PA01 Rep. Fitzpatrick may pretend to be #green, but whenever given the choice, he picks his donors (big banks, #fossilfuel corporations) over the #environment.

De-regulating pipelines, opening the #arctic to drilling, etc. He votes with the money, not with the environment.

And the person who is carrying that unintended pregnancy is just a walking incubator?! Fuck this shit. Abortion is a human right that must be available to any pregnant person who wants it. Not only if there aren’t coaches willing to “raise that baby.”
People have abortions for various reasons, not just because there aren’t people willing to “raise that baby.”

Among those reasons: because they don’t want to be pregnant.

That’s why I had my two abortions. I did not want to be pregnant.

#AbortionRightsAreHumanRights
I had two abortions because I did not want to be pregnant.

We are not walking incubators as the “put the baby up for adoption” crowd seem to think.

I understand why some want to use “pro forced birth” instead of “anti abortion,” to describe zealots behind abortion bans, but we must not shy away from the word “abortion.” I am pro abortion.
Say “abortion.” Use that word often. Shatter the silence and shame that the zealots insist on. #AbortionRightsAreHumanRights #AbortionIsHealthcare
For as long as patriarchy can shroud abortion with silence it will continue to stamp it in shame. Knowing that, I broke my silence so that I could break free of shame. I am pro abortion. 📷 @rerutled feministgiant.com/p/essay-on-abo… Mona holding a sign saying "I have had two abortions.&q

At the inaugural Feminist Book Club event at @strandbookstore last night, Dr. Meera Shah was asked how we can fight back against abortion bans. She gave many great ideas including "Say the word 'abortion' more. Talk about it more." #AbortionIsNormal #AbortionIsHealthcare Two women sitting on either side of a big banner that reads
The book club, co-presented by FEMINIST GIANT & @strandbookstore, launched w/ Dr. Shah's You're the Only One I've Told: The Stories Behind Abortion which inspired me to break the silence--refuse shame--around my abortions. TALK ABOUT ABORTION 📷 @rerutled

Shatter that silence, vanquish secrecy, drag abortion out of the shadows and into the public discourse as the human right that it is. Don't let abortion opponents constrain it with the straitjacket of shame and stigma. feministgiant.com/p/essay-on-abo… #AbortionRightsAreHumanRights

I recently heard the term "weaponizing ignorance" - great descriptor.

Currently, all the media inquiries I'm getting are geared towards "explaining ALL the ways in which abortion is necessary to save life and health" of pregnant persons

coupled with ...
... "if legislators wanted to create a ban that affords flexibility to care for patients what would that look like?"

These questions rely on false premises.

First - there is IMO no ethical way to "create a ban" to a fundamental liberty interest and to fundamental healthcare.
Next - to explain all the ways that #AbortionIsHealthcare I would have to teach you obstetrics. I'm not trying to be evasive when I say that. There are very sincerely 1000s of reasons we may need to perform an abortion for the health of a patient...

[Avortement et extrêmisme religieux]

L'extrêmisme religieux provoque des campagnes anti-avortement d'une violence inouïe, et ce depuis bien des années. Vous n'avez pas idée.

Voyage au pays « In God we trust »👇

👇 Image

In 1996 I had an “illegal” abortion in Egypt and in 2000 I had a “legal” abortion in the U.S. I use inverted commas because I reject the State’s attempt to control my uterus. feministgiant.com/p/abortion-is-… #AbortionIsNormal #AbortionRightsAreHumanRights
I reject its power to declare what is “legal” or “illegal” when it comes to my abortions.

The State--and the Supreme Court--can fuck off with its opinions about what I can and can’t do with my uterus.

That control belongs to me.

I'd told a few friends privately about my abortions but it took me 25yrs to write/speak about them publicly.

Why? Was I not brave, I ask in Abortion is Normal, the 1st essay I wrote about them for Safe Abortion Day in September 2021

Why is there so much silence around abortion?

When fascists & theocrats tighten their grip on your body w:abortion bans, the path to freedom must be paved with profanity. Politeness is capitulation.

Abortion bans are intent on punishing us for daring to take ownership of our bodies and our sexual desire outside of the norms. They aim to police our bodies and punish us for sex outside of marriage between a man and a woman. feministgiant.com/p/essay-the-se… #AbortionRightsAreHumanRights
Abortion bans are driven by zealots and puritans.

We must not dance to their agenda but instead fuck to our heart’s content whomever (with their consent, obviously) and whenever, secure in the knowledge and the right to determine the consequences.
Abortion is a human right, not a bonus or a reward we must earn.

Pro-lifers don't like complexity. At 17 weeks my placenta detached and he was much too small. I thought I felt my baby's frantic attempts to breathe. My OBGYN advised me to terminate the pregnancy, there wasn't much time. But I couldn't.
Every doctor told me it would only get worse. And it did get. But I already loved him. I'd waited 8 years for him. They saw on the Ultrasound that his umbilical cord was yards long.
An umbilical cord spinning out a lifeline helplessly. He'd stopped growing. But his heart continued to beat even as his movements - frantic at first when the oxygen cut off, slowed, and he became horribly still. I hated the doctors who couldn't save him.

National production of "cannon fodder" must be protected.
Abortion is a "waste" of resources in times when war consumes them in superabundance.

Women of the wealthy classes will continue to enjoy civil rights in the clinics of "progressive" States.
They will pay a little more, but there is inflation.
And the freedom of choice has always been proportional to the economic possibility of purchasing it.

Rights are also commodities and follow the laws of the market.
Proletarian women will have to be content with "mommies" and knitting needles.
If they die, they cost less to public health.

If they don't produce children they are useless.

🧵As a female legislator, I often have to mask my rage in order to be an effective leader. Today, that feels impossible.

I'm fucking furious, and it's ok to say that out loud.

Today, 6 justices took a fundamental human right away from 1/2 the population.

We should be pissed.
And in their gutting of Roe, Thomas laid out the path to target contraception, same-sex relationships, and same-sex marriage.

We have a lot of work ahead of us, and it could get worse before it gets better.

But we have been preparing for thus, and we have a plan here in MN.
At a press conference today, I joined with fellow co-chairs @AthenaHollins and @Morrison4MN to announce the Reproductive Freedom Caucus has joined with the coalition at @UnRestrictMN to release Beyond Roe: The Post Roe Leadership Agenda

Making abortions illegal does not stop abortions. It just stops safe options for abortions. A woman that truly does not want that fetus WILL find a way by any means to abort it. Coat hangers, "accidents", poisoning by means of drugs & alcohol.
What you're doing is endangering the woman. If she survives than you've potentially fucked up that fetuses life. It will either be miscarried, stillborn, or have a birth defect as a result of the woman trying to get rid of it.
Then it's born. Guess what? That woman still doesn't want it. So now it's sent off to an already overcrowded foster system where they will most likely be aged out of and end up homeless. That's no saving a life. That's damning two lives to Hell on Earth. & that child grows up-

Abortion rights are human rights.

I’m too angry to say anything more right now.
What happened today is a disgrace. The right to choose is a fundamental freedom, and forcing someone to carry to term is a form of indentured servitude.

But it’s so much worse than that.
The minority in favor of this ruling have a goal: oppression and subjugation of women. They are not “pro life” - how do we know this? They consistently vote against policies at would support making it easier to have children, and policies that would support children.

I remember well my feelings in 1987 when I went to get an abortion. When I was accosted by the “probirthers” outside the abortion clinic who were harassing women using their PERSONAL FREEDOM to obtain the healthcare services provided by a @PPFA clinic. Bec they provide HC servs 2
2/It’s worrisome to me that #Yamiche is outside an abortion clinic interviewing ppl trying to seek services at the clinic.

When I went to get the abortion, I already knew I was pregnant but only a few weeks. Probirthers outside the clinic accosted me, screamed at me #deadlineWH
3/yelling for me not to kill my “baby”. They stuck signs in my face, followed me from my 🚗 in the parking lot all the way to the fence line in front of the clinic — where a staffer met me & escorted me inside — all the while ppl were screaming & threatening me. #DeadlineWH
