With #WHA74 approving a late Nov 2021 Special Session to consider a "WHO convention, agreement or other international instrument on pandemic preparedness and response," I needed a living list of views & recs on what such a treaty should cover 🧵
apps.who.int/gb/ebwha/pdf_f…
Call for a pandemic treaty appears in an op-ed by @eucopresident together with 25+ heads of state & @DrTedros in March. They invoke need to improve inter alia "data-sharing, research, and...production of medical and public health counter measures" who.int/news-room/comm…
Note the *idea* is not new - many academics and experts have previously called for int'l laws on at least some aspects of global health (see more recently @haiknikogosian & @IlonaKickbusch bmj.com/content/372/bm…). March op-ed however marks first significant high-level support

"While the 🌍 has suffered as one, we have not suffered equally. Two-thirds of the world's largest companies made an additional USD109 billion in 2020. At the same time 140 million children & their families will be pushed into acute poverty.
This is unacceptable."

Let’s call for a massive push to vaccinate 𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁:

📍10% of every country's population by September

📍30% by the end of 2021.

The @WHO is calling on #WHA74 to rally such goals.

“If any country is left behind, we are all held back”. ~@DrTedros
2) If wealthier vaccinated countries don’t help, this will continue to happen. Neglect of the developing world will lead to hurting the world continually.

This is why we must share vaccines and unite.
3) if we don’t share vaccines, then richer countries will still be hit. We are all connected. No country is invulnerable.
