1/50 #Science is an ongoing process that serves to investigate phenomena, gain new insights or "correct prior knowledge" and this only works in #discourse. This includes diversity of #Opinion, #tolerance and a broad debate space. This is a large thread.
2/50 "#trust the science" is in my view the most #antiscience statement ever. #Questioning science is how you do #Science. This thread gives some examples and further questions.

In the very beginning of the pandemic, I created the hashtag #multiyearpandemic

2023 is approaching and we are seeing it span out in reality.

1) #COVID19 is nowhere near endemic status.

2) Mathematical modeling 👉 it’s going to take ~10 years to reach it.

#CovidIsNotOver
This highly contagious virus has all of the necessary ingredients to ensure long term staying power. Millions will be disabled for life.

They give the ILLUSION of #transparency - but we're NOT going to tell you which group the has more UNvaccinated vs Vaccinated - NOR how many shots they've had. NOPE!

Rumors of testing bias? PLS don't ask!

We are quite pleased that most of #Ontario & the media actually thought that adding the numbers in these graphs gave you correct totals.

We were quite tickled that many of you calculated rates using these graphs.

More info on the @CancerPrev_KCL & @CR_UK-run NHS-Galleri™ #screening trial:

cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/c…

Worth noting you can't #volunteer for this trial, but if you are 50-77 & haven't been diagnosed with cancer in the past 3 years, you may be #invited... Image
The NHS-Galleri™ #screening trial is a proper #RCT, which means half of the 140,000 participants WON'T be tested (certainly not in the initial phase) and NONE will be told whether they have been #tested or not.

Of course if the test indicates *possible* markers for #cancer... Image
...then you will be contacted by the trial nurse by phone, and will be referred to an NHS hospital for further tests.

So every participant in the NHS-Galleri™ #screening trial should still attend standard screening & should contact their GP if they notice any unusual symptoms: Image

Kids do get #COVID19
Kids can be #Asymptomatic or #Atypical.
Kids can have a mild infection, or get #PIMS
Kids can get #LongCovid

2000 kids NOT yet better.
Families disbelieved.

⚠️Contains graphic images.

longcovidkids.org #MothersDay
The numbers of children with #LongCovid are rising with every #COVID19 infection.

⚠️1 in 8 primary age children will get Long Covid
⚠️1 in 7 secondary age children will get Long Covid.

It appears to makes no difference if a child has a pre-existing condition or not.
Tragically children can die.

Thankfully the numbers are low compared with adults.

Every family that has lost a child will be devastated, the fact the numbers are low will have no bearing on their grief.

Time for a BIG thread and for me to return to where i made my bones: #Covid19.

This time with a prediction that will end up hurting A Lot:

#Europe will stay in lockdown until March/April 2021. If it doesn't, the virus overwhelms hospitals and forces a lockdown anyway.

1/x (50)
First, some background, as i know many of you are new to the channel (Welcome!!) and to show i'm not "just some guy on twitter".

While you probably found me because of #silver or #Tether, I made my bones correctly predicting #Covid19 would turn pandemic.

Around January 11th 2/x
Before the Virus, i was trying to become an inventor. On the 7th of January, me and my Russian friend had just ended up with a quote of about 15k to build an app i designed - but we were broke.

The plan became for me to sell a small invention to raise capital for an alpha. 3/x

#Plasmadonation..one of the most used term nowadays, ofcorse this arouses lots of queries in a donor's mind..

Let's see if this helps to clear the air to some extent 👍summerized in 10 points.

#covidcapsules #plasmatherapy

Among the 3 categories of COVID patients (severe, moderate ,mild), plasma therapy is suggested for patients who have been moderately infected.Patients with mild condition often recover easily themselves, whereas the chances of recovery in a severely-infected patient are slim.
When one contracts an infection, especially a viral infection, their recovery depends on the production of antibodies to fight the antigen ( which in the current case, is COVID-19). These antibodies are present in the recovered person’s blood for a few weeks aftr recovery.

Summer 1970: a rare form of typhoid is infecting people in Edinburgh. Dr Nancy Conn, a bacteriologist at Western General, finds the source and prevents a major outbreak with detective work and sanitary towels.

A thread on one of Scotland's unsung #WomenInSTEM

Typhoid was and is uncommon in Scotland. Apart from an outbreak in Aberdeen in the 60s, most cases are linked to overseas travel. The Edinburgh outbreak was different. It was mainly children who were being infected, from different parts of the city. 1/n
None of them had ever been abroad and none had any link to India, where this rare strain of the Salmonella typhi bacterium comes from. Dr Conn sat with the patients and interviewed them in detail. Many were senseless with fever. She interviewed their friends and families too. 2/n

1/ Q: What do we know about #kids and #COVID19 transmission?

A: We STILL need more data. But so far there is evidence that:

1) kids (especially younger kids) are less likely to be infected (yay!).

2) kids *may* be less likely to transmit SARS-CoV-2 to others.
2/ How do we know this?
We know that children are under-represented in case numbers all over the world, but in theory this could be because of mild or #asymptomatic illness that makes them less likely to be #tested.
3/ To rule this out, some studies have tested all members of infected households. Using PCR tests for current infections, kids (esp. ages 0-10) seem about half as likely to become infected as adults.
