The G7 Communiqué is out. It covers a range of topics: trade, climate change, science and technology, artificial intelligence, anti-corruption, and so much more. This short thread 🧵 focuses mostly on the trade/tech/econ security themes.

On artificial intelligence, the G7 recognizes the possible benefits but clear drawbacks of #generative AI. They will thus establish the *Hiroshima AI process,* a G7 working group, in cooperation with the OECD and GPAI, for discussions on generative AI later this year.
The trade section offers unequivocal support for the WTO right off the bat, celebrating positive outcomes from MC12 (ie, fisheries) and anticipates progress in other areas like the #JSI ahead of MC13. Unclear where the Biden administration views its relationship evolving re: WTO.

#China's GDP (in nominal terms) will never surpass the #US GDP.

For a long time, I have been sceptical of the forecasts that have predicted otherwise. I have been open to the possibility of a short-term situation in the mid-2030s, where it was temporarily higher.

Now, I do not even believe that anymore.

Some months ago, the Japan Center for Economic Research (JCER) predicted that it will not happen at all. Why? Simply because nothing grows forever.

#China has at least three major issues that will slow down its growth to a very low level. Two of these are domestic, but only one is "possible" to address properly. The last one is more international.

In five years, #JoeBiden will likely get the #NobelPeacePrize. But not because he did anything proactively for peace.

It is because a #Multipolar World will be more peaceful than a unipolar one, and Biden has done more than anyone else (albeit unwittingly) to further that. (1/n)
The US-led #sanctions against #Russia in response to the #UkraineRussiaWar have forced countries around the world to abandon the US dollar as a medium of trade. This is forcing the rest of the world (non-West) together. Banning Russia from #swift was most important in this. (2/n)
#India and #China desperately need oil. Because of sanctions, Russia is providing oil at cheap rates to both. Russia has now become India's largest source of oil, displacing Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Chinese imports of Russian oil have also zoomed upwards. (3/n)

“President Xi’s visit with Saudi and GCC leaders marks the birth of the petroyuan” — Zoltan Pozsar.

Americans are crying about the imaginary melting of glaciers, while oblivious to the dollar hegemony melting away.

Some more Zoltan:

“President Xi Jinping’s three- to five-year horizon means that by 2025, the GCC may be paid in renminbi for all of the oil and gas”!

“Invoicing of oil in renminbi will hurt the dollar’s might, but also means more inflation for the West.”
“Russia, Iran and Venezuela account for 40% of world’s oil reserves… and they are all now selling oil for Yuan.”

(Petroyuan = a reality)

Putin: “The creation of an international reserve currency based on a basket of currencies of our countries is being worked on.”

The flood of foreign Govt visitors post-Ukraine, suggests, that they are finally trying to understand #India & #GOI #policy from the "horses mouth" (instead of seeing it through the biases of neo-colonialists and their Indian agents).

For the past decade and a half Russia was preaching first and by most to itself that the so-called #multipolar world is coming. And it’s going to change everything in favour of the non-West. Thread 1/7
It’s basic idea was that more powers across the globe should be involved in decision making (G20) and economic might should convert in political power (India, China) and some power like Russia just have to be centres of power (nukes+legacy) 2/7
Despite repeated attempts there was never an abundance of interest in this concept and it was mostly Russia that kept preaching the coming of this new multipolar order. 3/7

#Hypocrisy is the best policy in a #unipolar #world, but it wont work in the “multipolar transition” to a “#Tripolar #World with a #multipolar rim”!
The “#Bipolar #World with a #Multipolar #Rim,” is already here. The Russian conflict with Ukraine, wont change this. #High #Tech #Decoupling & #partial #economic #decoupling from China is a necessary for survival of free market, open democracies.

Over the years, #China’s relationship with the #EU has withstood profound changes in the world. It has focused on dialogue, cooperation and mutual benefit, and demonstrated strong vitality by progressing with the times. 🇨🇳🇪🇺
It is important to stay committed to peaceful coexistence, open cooperation, #multilateralism, and dialogue and consultation. #China and the #EU are comprehensive strategic partners, not systemic rivals.
In 2020, #China became the #EU's largest trading partner for the first time. The two sides signed the agreement on #GeographicalIndications, decided to establish high-level dialogue mechanisms on #environment & #climate and on digital cooperation, and concluded #BIT negotiations.

The Empirization of China

The #Chinese want to be an #Empire and that too in a hurry. But many perished in this quest. #GreatBritain is no more a empire. #USA is also facing heat in #multipolar world in #PostColdWar era.
@narendramodi @MEAIndia
1. With cunning and ruthlessness #China was well on track. It might have become a #GlobalEmpire within another 20 to 30 years. But its own shrowdy , anti democratic and #AntiHuman policies leading to its own #disaster.
2.However in their desperation and over eagerness, China it seems has overplayed its hand on many fronts. Now, by triggering, concealing and manipulating a #CoronaPandemic, China has not only made its dream of empire untenable, it will probably destroy China.
