I took a bike ride service yesterday and had the fantastic experience (1st of its kind) of meeting this ambitious and dynamic powerhouse of positivity. Ms. Venkata Lakshmi L is in her 40’s and a single mother.
After her husband's death, she had no time to grieve as she had to care for her family. But, being not one of the easy giving-up types, she told me that she invested every penny from her savings into getting the bike and signed up for both services to make ends meet.

a little more about an important distinction imo

re the "purpose" of emotion

quick 🧵👇
2/ emotion activates

and what it activates depends on

- you
- your environment

with that "you" & "environment"
being very very complex

... so the PROBLEM here is
3/ intelligence & study create certainty

our esteemed book writing psychologist, pontificating free wisdom

operates as

- a person
- in a context
- with a history
- and certain learnings

that smart, studious people tend to universalize and/or prosethetize

A reflection on Western African illiterate women diaspora in Italy.
I want to share a reflection I made a while ago.

I'm a so-called second generation migrant in Italy if Ghanaian descent, working with asylum seekers and migrants as mediator and teacher.
👇🏾
#Ghanaians make a distinction between #wisdom (literally "home intelligence") and #education ("school intelligence").
Working with Africans, especially Ghanaians and Nigerians, as a mediator I can see too often there is a lack of the latter.
👇🏾
I have met several illiterate or poorly educated young women (25-35 years).
Illiteracy comes with early death, exploitation, abusive relations, early parenting and – on what concerns my job – a high difficulty to understand and adapt to Italian/European system.

Chapter 1:

Every duty comes with challenges. Learn to embrace the hardships - thats half the battle won.
Chapter 2:

You will never know peace, long as you are attached.

Peace comes from detachment.

Cultic Behavior Checklist☑️

#culture #CULT #DANGER #Wisdom
1. They draw you in. They tell you what they claim is inside info to make you feel trusted. You’ll get loads of compliments and immediate attention. You will feel deeply appreciated and/or honored.
2. Your boundaries will be tested. Small comments made. Micro aggressions. Contacting you at random times. Taking liberties when speaking about you, as if they know you personally, creating their own image of their relationship to you.

(1/?) Sometimes wisdom looks different than we imagine. When we’re frustrated, stuck at home, complaining, making mountains of molehills- we want wisdom to be easy. Instead we must go out and accomplish something, see how big this world is. How hard people work.
Only then we get real wisdom. And don’t worry, this ain’t some Mach tough love bullshit (not completely.) Because real wisdom is as graceful and kind as we imagined it would be. It desires a safe comfortable home for all, kindness of strangers and enjoying life. But it’s earned.
You won’t find that wisdom sitting at home frustrated. When you’re in that mode, you want quick fixes you call wisdom. You want the idea or imagine of wisdom, the picture of a smiling Buddha. But it’s just a picture. You gotta go out and see this world. See the plights of others.

Philosophy is a love of wisdom, which cannot be quantified by grading rubrics or systematized by learning outcomes. Why are philosophy professors addicted to academic metrics that commodify learning? (A thread on #ungrading).
@Jessifer says that "grades (and institutional rankings) are currency for a capitalist system that reduces teaching and learning to a mere transaction. Grading is a massive co-ordinated effort to take humans out of the educational process"...
@Jessifer also says that learning outcomes presuppose what is to be determined in the course of collaborative inquiry, & should be replaced by "emergent outcomes" that "are co-created by teachers and students and revised on the fly"...

Let’s talk about trauma bonds which can form in toxic relationships. One pattern is:the person seeking energy supply will mirror back some of your most foundational personality and character traits, including communication styles as well as expressions and phrases of empathy.
These are the traits that feel most familiar to you, because they are part of -your- essence, character and personality…so you will naturally feel safe and drop your guard down. This will cause you to feel a deep bond of familiarity with the person. They may feel like family.
Then when the person who chooses/manifests/creates cluster B (such as narcissism, sociopath, etc) patterns may subtly emotionally/energetically pull away and begin to show less interest. Sometimes they will do this abruptly, and sometimes slow and steady.

Tim Ferris @tferriss interviewed Morgan Housel @morganhousel, the renowned author of Psychology of Money, one of the most insightful books on behavioral finance.

We listened to this 3-hour podcast and here are the insights that resonated with us.

A thread ....🧵
1/ On passing wealth to kids

If you are fortunate enough to save money, make sure to pass only enough to have a safety net without giving them fuel for entitlement. As Buffet said, “Leave enough money so they could do anything, but not so much that they could do nothing”
👇
2/ On gaming the market

Market cycles are unique. 2020 biological crisis was not the same as 2008 financial crisis. Even the most rational investors gave in to fear and panic. We respond to risk in different ways. Be greedy when others are fearful is easier said than done.
