We've all heard the term #Blockchain, but what exactly is a Blockchain?

Let's take a 👀! 📜👇
A blockchain is a linked list of transactions (#data) stored on a network of computers.

So, a Block is basically just a bunch of data, usually a collection of records like transaction records, arranged one after another, and each new block references the previous block's data.
Because each block is connected to the previous one, it makes a CHAIN ⛓️⛓️⛓️

And that, my friends, is how we got the term Blockchain!

Let's review real quick!

Chunks of data, each one referencing the previous chunk of data, aligned in a Chain.

Pretty simple so far!

@boblautenbach @Alan_L_Lovejoy @Ryu_Zoku Yes Chris Lattner is very interesting, been following his #LLVM and #SWIFT work.

1/
@boblautenbach @Alan_L_Lovejoy @Ryu_Zoku Actually #ZokuTalk adopts the portion of SWIFT #EBNF for #Unicode as they seems have done good job on that, as well as parts of the EBNF for numerics such as "1_234.00" to expand privative data types entry.

\2
@boblautenbach @Alan_L_Lovejoy @Ryu_Zoku Borrowing C & Assembly data types: 0b0011, 0xFF, keeping 16r0A, plus many others.

Actually the numeric formats are one of more complicated part of the #EBNF of #ZokuTalk and the only non-#MOBS (#Messages #Objects #Block #Syntax) part of the evolved syntax.

Responding to the Energy FUD

The #Bitcoin Network

In 2017 #Newsweek and the #WorldEconomicForum

Both Predicted that The #Bitcoin Network

Will consume

"ALL OF THE WORLDS ENERGY BY 2020"

Today 2022 - 5 years later, how accurate are the predictions, what are the #'s

1/5
5 years after @Newsweek and @wef predicted #Bitcoin would use ALL the worlds energy by 2020

The #Bitcoin Network consumes ONLY

.0012 of the energy generated globally

This is not even close to ALL the worlds energy. How did they get it so wrong?

2/5
Here in the US we waste 6,800 TWH of energy annually creating and transmitting electricity

The global #Bitcoin Network uses only 188 TWH of energy

= The wasted energy in the US alone can power 36 Global #Bitcoin Networks.

The real #BTC energy footprint is negligible

A month ago on the Sustain Podcast I touched on how my current employer, @elastic, handles its #distributed and #remote approach to software development and my thoughts on what we can learn from this when addressing the challenges of sustainable Open Source development.
As we kick off @SustainOSS tomorrow, I thought I'd start a thread with some afterthoughts (but bear in mind I’m representing myself here, not the company, and these are all based on my personal perspective).
Elastic’s distributed model is such that its Engineering department (and most other departments too) is entirely physically and temporally free.
By that I mean that every one of us is free to work in any location and any timezone in which the company can legally employ.

Reading through @OtherProfGreen summary of the 9th August #UK event, the similarities to the 25th August 2018 #Australian separation event across the #NEM are very interesting to observe.
Firstly, they are all attributed to lightning strikes.

And although the #UK one was easy to identify, the #QLD one took a bit of forensic investigation as it happened at a time that no weather warnings were out for the area.
Both events attribute an initial loss of generation due to disconnection of #distributed #generation #DG

I will get back to this point later, because it is probably the most interesting aspect of both events!!

I was recently contracted to consult with a company working on a Blockchain product. After 30 minutes; I made most of their engineering team realise they weren’t building a solution to a problem. Their marketing/corporate team not so much. A thread...
The company is building #blockchain based solution for maintaining health records. Health records should be private and #blockchain with its encrypted store seemed like a great solution to them. I asked them a series of Q&A to help them understand their solution.
1. Do we need to share the encrypted data?

Yes, with doctors & others. If you have to share results with doctor in plain text what is the point of having it encrypted in the first place? The data will just leak out.
