The pace of #innovation in electric vehicles is mind-blowing. It's not just about #batteries, but also #electricdrives, #powerelectronics, #software, and #batterymanagement. Image
These advancements mean better #energyefficiency, increased range, and lower costs. With fewer parts, economies of scale will soon make electric vehicles as affordable as internal combustion engines. The future is electric! ⚡️🚗 #EVs #CleanTransportation Image
Long-haul trucking and farm & mining equipment pose interesting challenges. Will it be all #batteries or a combo of #fuelcells and batteries? My bet is on batteries dominating the field due to their innovation and scalability. Fuel cells are still in their early stages Image

Rs 420cr wrongly charged by @atherenergy & @OlaElectric to scooters owners? 📛📛📛

This wild & unethical play has got the Govt up in arms against them!

Here’s all you should know 👇 Image
As per Govt’s Vahan portal, the number of scooters sold by Ola & Ather to date (as per Vahan) stand at 1.72L & 1.25L.

But Vahan portal doesn’t yet include sales from Telangana & Lakshwadeep. Thus, let’s round up the sales to account for some of that:

🔆 Ola: 1.8L
🔆 Ather: 1.3L
But, what really drove those big numbers?

🔆 Govt’s FAME scheme which has been massively subsidising electric scooters

🔆 In layman terms, the scheme says that after subsidy, the ex-showroom of a price of a scooter should be <Rs 1.5L. And this subsidy could go up to Rs 60k!

Just got my Ather EV last week and I'm already obsessed! This is my first EV purchase and I couldn't be happier with my decision @atherenergy #ElectricVehicles Image
I've already rode 300+kms on it and I couldn't be happier. The Ather EV is so easy to handle and the acceleration is amazing, making it a lot of fun to ride around town.
I was surprised to get the exact range that was mentioned on the box and sometimes beyond that on their respective modes. Also, the top speed of 90km/h on the Warp mode is so convenient to get it on the highways, no surprises with that. Image

1/ 🇦🇺 Australian electricians are evaluating which #EV chargers to offer going forward, and surprisingly, Tesla's wall charger isn't a top contender. Let's dive into the current landscape of EV chargers in this thread. ⚡🚘
2/ Bi-directional charging: Currently, the only available option is a CHAdeMO-equipped vehicle paired with a Wallbox Quasar, limited to South Australian residents. Tesla plans to enable bi-directional charging around 2025, but we'll have to see it to believe it. 🔌🔄
3/ What do electricians look for in an EV charger? Quality! The @froniussolar Wattpilot is a popular choice for its smart features, WiFi connectivity, and optional portability. The @myenergiuk Zappi 2 is another well-regarded option among Aussie solar installers. 🏆🔋

1/ Last week, CATL announced a new high-specific-energy battery. So, what makes this battery special?
2/ CATL says it can store "up to" 0.5 kWh/kg. That's a big claim, but they're confident about mass production soon. And hey, they're not just moo-ing around – they've got a track record to back it up! 🐄
3/ Confused by energy density vs. specific energy? Energy density is kWh/litre, while specific energy is kWh/kg. CATL's new battery is all about specific energy, so let's avoid mixing those terms! 🔋⚡

1/ Have you ever wondered how an electric vehicle (EV) charge curve works, why charge curves are so variable between EV's, or why EV's throttle power?

Lets deep dive into the physics and answer your EV questions.

An Electric Thread 🧵⚡️👇
2/

What is an EV charge curve?

The charge curve of an EV typically shows how the battery charges over time. As the battery charges, the charging speed gradually decreases until it reaches its full capacity.
3/

The charge curve is influenced by various factors, such as battery chemistry, charging infrastructure, and temperature.

Lithium-ion batteries have a limited charging capacity, and charging too fast can cause overheating or damage to the battery.

1/ Did you know that the average EV driver fills up with less then a gallon of gas of energy each trip to a EV fast charging station? Think about that!

Let's explore what is behind this & the implication for the future of car refill

Buckle up drivers for an Electric Thread 🧵⚡️
2/ According to publicly available data from @ElectrifyAm, the average amount of energy an EV driver fills up with at fast charging stations is only 33kWh per trip.

At an efficiency of 4 miles per kWh, that's around 132 miles of range per session.
3 / For comparison, gas cars have a range of about 350 miles per tank with 12 gallons of gas.

While EVs still have some catching up to do, the growing availability and convenience of fast charging stations are making them an increasingly viable option for daily driving

Dan Olson ([at] FoldableHuman) recently released another fascinating video, this one about the failed attempt by @facebook / @Meta to hop onto the "virtual reality" bandwagon, a couple of decades too late—for 3D simulated realities are now routine technology.

(cont'd)
I've talked about how @elonmusk's daydreams have a fusty, antique quality to them—like some kind of lingering hangover from the days of 1980s science-fantasy movies and the 1990s Internet craze, when people could make quick dirty money simply by grabbing a domain name.

(cont'd)
this is one reason I'm always amused to see people like @alx and @jason riding the @elonmusk bandwagon: clearly, these people have _also_ hoped that grabbing a short and catchy username would make them rich. see also Elon Musk's obsession with "X" and "the X App".

$muln #ElectricVehicles @DavidMichery #MullenAutomotive @bollingermotors I was very impressed with both teams.  Both companies had very professional displays.  However, what I was more impressed with was the knowledge of the employees and the vehicles that accompanied their
display and Bollinger had at least eight.  Everyone I spoke with had years of experience from previous employment at automotive leaders in the industry.
I was there because I own a small business in Fishers, Indiana and going green is important to me and my clients.
Stahl / Arbortech currently make our truck bodies, they also had a display.  I had Stahl / Arbortech’s engineer walk over and look at the Bollinger B4 chassis.  He was very impressed with the innovative setup of the chassis and the width of it.

the unseemly rush to shove @sama / @OpenAI / #ChatGPT "artificial general intelligence" into all our products—whether we want #AGI or not, but capitalists don't really care about our desires, only *their* desires—is put into some perspective: it's rebound from @Meta.

with its uncanny instinct for choosing only *stale* ideas to monetize, the #technology / #programming industry decided—for a while—that the next big high-tech thing that EVERYBODY would be forced to love would be "the #metaverse", which already exists in video games.

(2/x)
it also exists in @SecondLife, and in @nealstephenson and who knows how much other science fiction. people have been running around in computer-animated "avatars", of varying degrees of complexity and detail, for decades. @Meta and #MarkZuckerberg were wheel-reinventing.

$SPX
A low #CPI triggered a 114-point jump that took it above the dominant trendline. At the open, sell orders above that level initiated a pullback that took it 126 points down to the 20DMA

Not what we would call a 1-day reversal, more upside to come
#SPX
$DIA
Same picture for #DIA, sell orders above Dec 1 high pushed the #DJI lower

It went down after an impressive initial rally
Bounced from 20DMA

#DJIA will continue to lead the rally

Not a pretty candle, but not exactly a 1-day reversal

#DowJones #trading #options #trading
$IWM

Same story

Perhaps an uglier candle, closer to a 1-day reversal than $DIA and $SPX.

$RTY looking much better

Bounced from important support in the trading channel

Big volume today.

#IWM needs to catch up with $DJI for accompanying leadership

Why we liked Amara Raja Batteries but never recommended it?

✅ India's 2nd largest mfg. of lead-acid batteries, mostly used in vehicles; but...

❌ No usage in electric 2w & 3w and rising env. concerns regarding lead batteries

More reasons in this thread ⤵️
✅ With $1Bn capex, expanding to Li-ion batteries that are preferred for EVs

❌ Li-ion batteries require much more techno-chemical expertise and new ways of mfg., unclear if Amara can imbibe

#ElectricVehicles #vehicles
❌ Li-ion batteries amount to > 50% of the cost of EVs, so auto cos. may produce it in-house (Tata, M&M, Ola already exploring)

"Would anyone care to guess why we're so GOOD at building transistors and so CRAP at designing drugs?"

"This thing [points to transistor] lives in a centralized system. This thing [points to cancer drug] lives in US."
"I'm going to pick on economics, because we like to do that at SFI. 'Ooh, look at that cover! So techy. Global, heat maps...' But here's 'Networks' [in the textbook]. THAT'S IT. Here's '#ComplexityEconomics.' NOTHING."

A thread on #ElectricVehicles 👇

Since it's generally perceived that using a Diesel generator to charge an EV is ridiculous, I was wondering how the running cost of an electric scooter compare against a ICE scooter, if the EV was charged from a petrol/diesel generator.
To understand this, we need to look at the fuel requirements of a PG/DG set. Unfortunately, very few sellers directly mentions the fuel required per kWh, so I had to calculate it myself using the parameters like tank capacity, duration of running, load, etc.
What I found was a small domestic 3kW Petrol generator uses about 0.4-0.5 liter petrol per kWh, & Industrial DGs (500kW) use about 0.25 liter diesel per kWh of electricity generated.

So, bigger the generator, better is the fuel efficiency, & PGs use about twice the fuel as DGs.

This Friday, EU energy ministers aim to decide on measures to soften the impact of the escalating #gas and #electricity bills on households and businesses. The decisions should be guided by the following principles. A 🧵 1/10
Direct, timely & targeted payments to households & companies that need support are better than general public spending to lower energy prices for all consumers. The latter is very costly & can undermine the crucial need to save as much energy as possible before winter. 2/10
Current pricing mechanisms in #electricity market work and must be maintained. Marginal pricing is central to the integration of renewables and necessary to incentivise uptake of #heatpumps and #electricvehicles. Read more in our new paper (in German) bit.ly/3fs6Rmj 3/10
